Ensuring a safe and supportive environment for ALL students

Posted Date: 1/29/25 (9:00 PM)

Dear Rapoport Academy Community,

Creating a safe and supportive educational environment for all students is core to our mission. We have received numerous questions and concerns from parents, faculty, staff, and the community about our school's policies regarding student information and interactions with law enforcement agencies on our campuses. Our policies and procedures align with our commitment and obligation to provide a safe learning environment for all students.

Confidentiality & Transparency: All student information is protected by federal law, specifically, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This law prohibits the dissemination of student information and or records, without a lawful subpoena or permission from the student's parents except in specific circumstances. We are not permitted to and will not release any student records or information unless the FERPA requirements are met. We will also provide notice to parents when a request is made where we are permitted or required to do so before releasing any records.

Law Enforcement & Safety Protocols: Regarding our policies related to law enforcement activity on any school campus, we have specific safety and security protocols in place. School administrators and front office staff are trained on interactions with law enforcement, including our legal obligation to ensure that student rights and information are protected as required by FERPA and other laws. Any law enforcement interaction with a campus will be referred to our leadership team and we will work closely with our legal counsel. Except for emergencies, law enforcement is only granted access to students or student information when we have verified that all required steps have been taken and that the law enforcement request does not violate any of the applicable laws establishing privacy protections for students and their records.

Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education.
